Sure, we're better off than the average Bangladeshi or Afghani. But should we really be comparing ourselves to the Third World?
The proper comparison is to Scandinavia, Switzerland, or even Australia or New Zealand -- and in that comparison we fail miserably, on every metric.
Yes, we should be grateful for what we have. But we've fallen so far since the bicentennial and I don't see our prospects improving any time soon. Shallow patriotism and self-aggrandizement won't help.
Well said! We, in Canada, have similar perspective having just celebrated our July 1st. You want a better life? Work for it like our immigrant families did for a couple of generations. And if you come to a country, knowing you can get all sorts of benefits right after stepping off the plane and working the system, or continue to suck on the teat of others while bitching or not bothering to become a citizen, then please, I beg, go back to your homeland and see how good you had it. P.S. until you learn the language of the country you decided to emigrate to, everything will be hard.
In my opinion, if your view of our country is so negative, you should go live in another country. Otherwise as the author pointed out, be a part of the solution by working in your own community where you can truly make an impact. Attending No Kings protests, etc. produce nothing other than screaming into an echo chamber.
Absolutely inspiring and much needed right now.
Beautiful! Want to help the country? Want to help yourself? Be grateful.
Beautifully said! Thank you and happy Fourth of July!!🇺🇲🗽🎆

I agree - but I do also appreciate the freedom that Americans have the legal option to attend whatever protest they choose (peacefully).
