Opposing divisive curriculum in Evanston Elementary School
AFP/Getty Images
Last week, FAIR's legal team sent a letter to the superintendent of Evanston School District 65 in Evanston, Illinois. In the letter, FAIR raised concerns about the district's new elementary school curriculum surrounding racial categorization and gender. One lesson teaches students that people are in “danger” because of “whiteness,” and suggests that racism is exclusively associated with “whiteness.” Another lesson indicates that the district’s elementary school students will be taught about gender transition and preferred pronouns, including neo-pronouns such as “ze” and “tree.”
As an advocate for pro-human antiracism, FAIR respects educators who undertake efforts to create positive change and greater fairness. However, instruction that attempts to remedy prejudice should not itself further prejudice or disregard the civil rights and individuality of others. Title VI of the Civil Rights Act prohibits federally-funded entities from stereotyping students or creating a hostile environment based on their skin color.

FAIR Perspectives
This week on FAIR Perspectives, hosts Angel Eduardo and Melissa Chen interview cognitive psychologist, psycholinguist, and public intellectual Steven Pinker. Pinker is the author of several bestselling books, including The Blank Slate, The Better Angels of Our Nature, Enlightenment Now, and most recently Rationality: What It Is, Why It Seems Scarce, Why It Matters.
In this episode, Steven talks about his books and public response to them, the euphemism treadmill and whether we can ever escape it, the misunderstandings of terms like optimism and idealism, the tensions between human nature and the potential for progress, social media and the ways we can improve it, and how we can all be more rational.

How Activism Impacts Transgender Healthcare
Last week, FAIR in Medicine hosted a webinar where panelists discussed the ways in which certain types of activism have made it more difficult to have honest conversations about trans healthcare, the constructive role that activism can play in drawing attention to important issues, and how we can all advocate for a pro-human approach to transgender healthcare.

We have an informal “happy hour” every Thursday evening at 8:00 p.m. ET, and hold more formal monthly meetings that will address issues based on your interests and needs.
