Bion... just... wow.

I had to google this. Unbelievable. I thought Douglas Murray was possibly catastrophizing in War on the West (Racist Music, p 230) but here we are.

Agreed. And kudos to FAIR for taking this case. May you prevail to the end!

I studied Schenkerian analysis as part of my music conservatory training 40 years ago. I found it revelatory, but also obvious, based as it is upon the laws of physics, i.e., the overtone series, generated by vibration in the material world. It takes an extremely creative, ambitious and utterly corrupt ideologue to extract racism from the overtone series. We might as well call the color wheel racist too, never mind that blue and yellow make green. It’s just that basic.

For the sake of non-musicians: it’s not hard to grasp, because you can hear it with one good ear. Why is music a universal language, like food and love? Because the world vibrates according to a formula that is baked into our bodies as well as everything else in the natural world. Music isn’t religion, but it could be. All Schenker did was notice this, and codify it as the underlying architecture of classical music. Without the “tonic dominant” relationship, we would not have keys, or ragas, or the blues, or Beethoven. In the beginning was the Word.

Agree. It’s profoundly disturbing and amazing to watch the fringe left create racism out of literally nothing. Your jeans are racist. Shoes are racist. Poop is probably racist. 💩

Thanks for explaining this!
