Dear friends of FAIR,
I am writing today to announce the departure of our colleague, Dr. Carrie Mendoza. After serving nearly three years as Director of FAIR in Medicine, it was mutually agreed that the time was ripe for her to explore other opportunities. Dr. Mendoza has been a valued member of FAIR since its earliest days, initiating leadership in advancing FAIR’s ethical, pro-human approach to the practice of medicine. We deeply appreciate her invaluable contributions and wish her much success in her future endeavors and continued pursuit of our shared goals.
I will appoint an interim Director as soon as possible to ensure that FAIR in Medicine continues to serve the needs of our chapters, volunteers, and other members of our community. Looking further ahead, however, recent developments outside of FAIR will impact our broader strategy.
Last week’s release of the groundbreaking WPATH Files exposed the need to emphasize a “therapy first” model to counter the senseless medicalization of disorders and trauma in minors. From opioids to psychotherapeutic drugs, there is also a clear and compelling need to broaden FAIR in Medicine’s scope to address the lack of patient informed consent, evidence-based medicine, and scientific debate and inquiry in other areas of medicine. To that end, I am forming a search committee, consisting of FAIR Advisors and prominent experts, to identify a Director who will be supported by a multidisciplinary team of health professionals.
It is said that with every ending, there is a new beginning waiting to be discovered. We look forward to a bold new beginning for FAIR in Medicine and keeping you informed and engaged.
Warmly,
Monica Harris
Executive Director
The Foundation Against Intolerance & Racism
This is sad news to me. It's great for Carrie and I'm not surprised she is "exploring other opportunities." Having been invited on Andrew Doyle's Free Speak Nation to weigh in on the WPATH Files and other venue's made me start to think that Carrie was getting much deserved exposure. I will miss Carrie at Chapter Leader meetings. There are big shoes to fill. Success, Dr. Carrie Mendoza!
Sounds like the perfect job for Dr. Martin Kulldorff or Dr. Vinay Prasad!
