I think you are mis-labeling the ghoulish offender. The legacy MEDIA is the party responsible for the images you describe as ghoulish. The Trump administration is carrying out its duty to the American public, which is to protect the citizens and arrest and punish criminals. Please stop with the toxic empathy enough already.
the intent of the article was perceived as admirable but the overall effect is nearing a orange man bad compilation with quotes from activists reinforcing that instead of the first paragraph which is what got me here
Which distracted me which soured me but I read on and the entirety of the world losing its shit over Israel fighting back is brushed over, a non-event to you and others who shrug
I won't speculate why
Millions of people arguing that Jews shouldn't be in their Homeland and how dare they fight back and every two that the mob encounters wherever it is will be treated guilty with hostility unlike any other time since Germany in the 30s,, for the last year and a half during the holiday of Passover when the Jews celebrate the return to that Homeland is overlooked when it can be referred to as an elemental foundational aspect of judeo-christian ideation as you mentioned, also unmentioned is the threat of Islam to people's Peace of mind throughout the planet
Oh yes, I have been cruely cancelled by family and friends. "The cancel culture that dominated our online discourse for the past ten years was driven in large part by our human penchant for cruelty."
And I wish I could reach those who have been cruel to protective parents like me.
I can only hope that the relatives and friends who terminated their relationship with me because I don't believe in gender ideology and medicalization of children, will find their way to reading your article or feel a cultural shift and find that I am, and have always been, a human being who loves her children.
One must wonder if Trump's ultimate goal (driven by his own hubris and possible anger at being rejected by the Republican Party in the past) is the destruction of the party as a whole. He's doing a good job of it either way. That said, the Democrats have also managed to shoot themselves in both feet by their rejection of their old base and wholesale embrace of identitarian politics. Both parties have lost touch with a wide swath of the country (different swaths, perhaps, but they've lost touch just the same), and they're both so drunk with power they don't seem to care. Rabble-rousing on both sides is a great way to cover up ethical and policy failings on a major scale.
It's easy to forget the Democrats were the party of slavery and Jim Crow, and that at one time Republicans like Theodore Roosevelt pursued social policies viewed as progressive in their day as well as major environmental objectives (Roosevelt was a conservationist after all).
Honestly I worry more about the impact of these national party directions on local parties, where their impact is more immediate and harmful. Party orthodoxy helps no one aside from those in power. I can think of at least two parties who had "bibles" of a sort (the Green Book and the Little Red Book) and neither of those turned out very well. Do we want a repeat here?
Just as an earlier post of yours said one reason to hate Trump was one's identity- I'm directly worried about the consequences of his policies. Ukraine. Israel. Climate change. Immigration. Civil rights - people should not be picked off of the street and thrown into prison in another country or this one without a fair trial. Trials may not always be fair but one should try.
And here. Everyone can be cruel. No identity needed. Civilization is about suppressing bad human impulses and creating a society where we can thrive and not live in fear.
Suppression of anti social urges to create a good society is what is needed. No identity needed. No political party. We can discuss what "good" means, and won't agree.
The cruelty and lawlessness is horrible, and I hope people break out of their fog of power happy destructive giddiness soon.
You’ve lost the plot. First, you admit that she was *convicted* of trafficking fentanyl. Then you suggest the Trump Admin should be more like those of Bush and Regan simply because they express sympathy for illegal aliens whose *only* crime is crossing the border illegally. The two situations, while connected by the first crime committed, are not at all comparable. Fentanyl traffickers are soulless ghouls who have no human dignity. I feel no sympathy for them. None. In fact, in such cases, I luxuriously bathe in the schadenfreude. GTFO!
So well said! Thank you for producing and publishing this great piece. My young adult daughters have noticed in their friends who have no religious traditions or beliefs a lack of empathy and a lot of negativity. I have said more than once that if more people would just embrace a religion (whichever one they want) our world would be a much better place. Of course that does not include any religious extreme that promotes violence, but the traditional religious values and the Golden Rule.

Cancel culture has waned on the left
said you...
The spiral away from objectivity is perceptible

I've written about it more than once, but here is one essay. https://thetranstrain.substack.com/p/carrying-on-after-cancellation

Well said.
And yet, you post a link to the very image you criticize. Hypocrite much?

Confused by your focus on identity again.

Are you kidding?
Inspirational. Helped me gain insight into how I've been feeling. I'll try to follow your prescription. Thank you.
