The University of Chicago Agrees to Change Discriminatory Medical Training Funding Policy
On July 12th, FAIR sent a letter to Dr. Vineet Arora, Dean of the University of Chicago’s Pritzker School of Medicine, expressing concern over a visiting medical student program. The program was proposed to pay a $2,000 per month stipend and offer valuable medical training only to students who are “Black/African American, Hispanic/Latinx, Native Americans (American Indians, Alaskan Natives, and Native Hawaiians), and Asian (Hmong, Vietnamese, Laotian, and Filipino).”
FAIR’s letter informed Dean Arora that Title VI of the Civil Rights Act prohibits recipients of federal funds from discriminating on the basis of race, skin color, and national origin.
We are thrilled to report that on August 5th, FAIR received a message from Dean Arora stating that the school has completed their internal review of the program and they are in the process of “updating their materials in order to ensure compliance with the law.”
This development, along with recent successes flagging discriminatory policies and practices at Emory Law School, Brown University, Anderson University, the Minnesota Private College Council, and Fairfax County Public Schools, showcases how a constructive and compassionate opposition to racism and intolerance can effect change in our institutions.
FAIR is dedicated to advancing civil rights and liberties for all Americans, and promoting a common culture based on fairness, understanding, and humanity.
If you’d like to report an incident of racism or intolerance at your school or organization, reach out to us at FAIRtransparency.org. Our legal team is ready to support you and follow up on all submissions.

Learn how racialization produces the illusion of “race” and racism, how to deracialize your worldview, practice antiracialization, and recognize the racelessness of the human species. Explore methods of translating the misleading language of “race” into the actual issues that drive discrimination and oppression. Build connections with others who are eager to not only understand how to move beyond racism but take meaningful action, and consider joining an effort to improve our government's approach to addressing race-based discrimination—one that does not require perpetuating self-racialization.
FAIR Perspectives Episode 25: Why America is Uniquely Stupid, with Jonathan Haidt
Last week on FAIR Perspectives, we spoke with Jonathan Haidt. Jonathan is a social psychologist, professor, and author whose research examines the intuitive foundations of morality, and how morality varies across cultures—including the cultures of progressive, conservatives, and libertarians. He is the author of The Happiness Hypothesis, and of The New York Times bestsellers The Righteous Mind, and The Coddling of the American Mind, which he co-authored with Greg Lukianoff.
We chatted with Jonathan about his recent Atlantic article “Why the Past 10 Years of American Life Have Been Uniquely Stupid,” social media and its effects on our discourse and culture, the need for a shared story, the importance of dissent, the distinctions between liberalism and conservatism, the global impact of America’s descent into what he calls “structural stupidity,” and what measures we can take to improve it.

Erec Smith: Redefining “Harm” Infantilizes People of Color
For FAIR’s YouTube channel, FAIR Advisor Erec Smith discusses the “concept creep” surrounding the word “harm” in social justice circles, and how this negatively impacts those its use is meant to help.
When you see someone complain about the “harm” imparted by someone else’s words, ask yourself if the complainer’s ideas and tactics will make any real difference in the lives of the truly injured. When harm begins to mean everything, it ceases to mean anything at all.
