FAIR Sends Letter to Brown University in Response to Segregated Teacher Training
On June 15th, FAIR sent a letter to Brown University President Christina Hull Paxson regarding a FAIRtransparency incident report detailing the university’s plans to offer Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction teacher training programs that are “ONLY open to certain demographics (black, latino, indigenous). The teachers will also only be members of what they call the BIPOC community (with support from senior teachers who may be white).” The program also intends to provide financial support to prospective trainees on the basis of their “race.”
The letter states that while FAIR “supports efforts to achieve greater fairness and assist those in need of financial assistance in higher education…establishing a teacher training program based on skin color or ancestry violates Title VI of the Civil Rights Act.”
FAIR in Medicine Sends Letter to Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Over Race-Essentialist Policies
On June 10th, FAIR in Medicine Director Carrie Mendoza sent a letter to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in response to the CMS’s “collection and stratification of data on ‘race’ and ‘ethnicity’—both of which are social constructs that have no reliable biological basis in the clinical context—[which] could have several adverse consequences.”
Mendoza notes that while FAIR in Medicine agrees with the CMS’s statements that “[s]ignificant and persistent disparities in healthcare outcomes exist in the United States” and that “[b]elonging to an underserved community is often associated with worse health outcomes,” can lead to “biased measurements and disadvantages to resource-limited settings.”

FAIR Perspectives Episode 19: There Are No Victims, Featuring Ian Rowe
This week on FAIR Perspectives, we speak with FAIR Advisor Ian Rowe. Ian is an author and educator, as well as co-founder and CEO of Vertex Partnership Academies, a new network of character-based International Baccalaureate high schools opening in the Bronx in August of 2022. Mr. Rowe is also the author of the recent book Agency: The Four Point Plan (F.R.E.E.) for ALL Children to Overcome the Victimhood Narrative and Discover Their Pathway to Power, which seeks to inspire young people to overcome the victimhood narrative and discover the pathway to power.
We discuss his origin story, The Success Sequence, being racialized in America, the phenomenon of acting white, and the difference between equity and equal opportunity. We also learn about his new charter school network, discuss how to help disadvantaged kids, and touch on the relationship between meta narratives and individual agency.
